A Little Bit Of Back Scratching

13/10/2013

I have recently made a new acquaintance, someone my daughter knows from work, who has been kind enough to help with some of the more burly jobs in our garden in exchange for my daughter helping him with some garden work, and I offered to set up some flyers for him.
We have a number of leylandii needing to be removed as they really are getting out of hand and we also need a concrete base to be made for a greenhouse we have bought from a neighbour - so all in all he is doing us a huge favour.
Graham already had some business cards pre-printed using stock images so I based the design of the flyer very much on these... using the same colours, layout and fonts etc. The icons on the flyer have been recreated by myself so although they are not exactly the same they still tie-in quite nicely.

As there was a large amount of space on the cloud I thought it could really do with a little 'something'... so I have also set up a Facebook page (creating as well the cover image and profile picture), and then added a Facebook logo and text in the cloud, which I think finishes it all off quite nicely!
Who knows, maybe I'll even set him up with a website too... watch this space!!

Graham wasn't sure about having a Facebook presence so I have made a few adjustments to the flyer... Hopefully these are now ok and will soon make it to print.

Meet Colin The Spider

Wow I have had THE most amazing weekend ever (I have a special surprise coming...woohoo!!).... AND I have been super productive too creating two new pictures for the book commission. I am a little concerned that Fluffy Bunny's front door is rather Hobbit-like but then again if you live in a burrow you're going to have a rounded front door right?

'...Fluffy noticed a white envelope
lying on the doormat.'

If you look closely at the door handle you will see it is attached by two heart shapes... this is a characteristic of old Suffolk latches and seeing as Fluffy Bunny lives in Southwold I thought it was an appropriate detail.

I'd like you all to meet... Colin

So time to sharpen my Aquash and Aqua Tone sticks and crack on again.

Wooohooo!!! so here we go...first page under way. I think I may have spent a little too much time thinking and working on the layout but this is the first time I have ever published someone else's book with my own illustrations so there are lots of angles I need to cover.

I have changed from the original book layout of A5 portrait to now A5 landscape and instead of wrapping the text around the images I am currently planning on an image per facing page (although the book is already at 32 pages so we're looking at 16 illustrations plus front and back cover).

I am beginning to think maybe I have bitten off more than I can chew but it's all a learning curve. Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

New look website!

Well it's about time I finally sorted my own site... I'm always busy at work updating other peoples websites and mine has sadly been sitting idle and neglected for oops well over a year, how shameful of me. So anyway here it is at last...a new layout, a new blog and a new year!
I am starting a new commission at the moment too...I've been asked to illustrate and publish a children's story book ('Bedtime Stories For Dogs presents: The Tails of Fluffy Bunny') the first one so far of a series (yippee!!) and now that Christmas is behind me and January is well under way I have no more excuses and really must crack the whip.

I'm just a country girl from Suffolk living with my beautiful daughter and 4 cats: EAP The Demonic Moggy, 'El Bandito' and 'Her Royal Highness Princess Pickle-Lily Fuzzy Britches' (yes that is her actual name), and 'The Fabulous Liz Taylor' (actually a tom cat... named after the Denis O'Hare character in American Horror Story Hotel).
    We also foster autumn-orphan hedgehogs.
