Time Flies When You're Working Hard!

Oh my goddess, I can't believe it's been four months since I last posted on here!! However, I have been busy squirreling away at a new website....
www.southwoldtouristinformation.co.uk.

The local office where I had been working was closing (end of April 2016) and myself and the other members of staff were all being made redundant. Personally I thought this action was a real shame... there is still a huge requirement for all of this information which has been amassed over the years and that maybe I could just do it myself.
I Love Southwold
I Love Southwold
Naturally the first thing I did was to look up some tasty domain names and couldn't believe no one else had registered them... I figured it was a good sign and that I was meant to do it, so registered a small selection (including both www.ilovesouthwold.co.uk and www.southwoldtourism.co.uk), which currently all point to the main site. What started as a simple idea has grown into quite a selection of information. Of course there are already a number of websites for Southwold (you only have to Google the town), but the difference with my new site is that it doesn't just display those businesses and attractions who pay to be displayed... it has the same principle with the old office in that the information should be freely available even if just a basic entry. Of course advertising still helps pay for my costs.
There is still a lot of work to do with the site but it is live and working, and doing exactly what I intended.
Recognise the logo? It's based on the window sticker which I had previously designed as stock for sale.

Of course me being a fan of all things 'social networking' I set up accounts with Facebook, Instagram and Google+.
Next came the business cards... again based on the same logo design...

... and right now I'm busy managing the information, keeping it all up to date and letting people know it's here. See you in Southwold :D xxx

'I parked in Southwold'

'I parked in Southwold' bumper sticker
Ok so I haven't actually parked in Southwold (because I can't drive)... instead I had a really busy day yesterday creating various samples: car window stickers, bumper stickers and leather bookmarks; all to be produced as stock for selling at the TIC.
I've been asked so many times "Do you sell the 'I parked in Southwold' bumper stickers?" (Southwold is notoriously difficult to find a parking space especially during the summer season); or "Do you sell leather bookmarks" (I've discovered many people collect these from all over); that I decided to create our own stock as I was unable to source these items elsewhere.
All items were created using my trusty Serif DrawPlus X5. The stickers all use CMYK colours and although I have shown the bookmarks in colour here, the actual bookmark designs are created black on a white background as these will be foil blocked in silver on dark blue bonded leather.
I also spent quite a bit of time sourcing where to get the items printed, the best value for printing in various quantities (which also provide the most profit); and also the various specifications that different printers require for submitting work.

It was definitely not a five minute job - it took me the best part of all day, but I feel I was very productive. I can't wait now to place the orders and see the final items on display and available for sale!!

My 'New' New Job!!

Since early June I have changed my job yet again... previously I was working at a local printers but unfortunately I didn't feel I was right for the particular job I was doing, and really felt that I was missing working with the public. So when a position came up at a local Tourist Information Centre I absolutely jumped at the chance and knew I was suited for the job.

I actually applied for a part-time assistant's position but was offered the chance to cover whilst the supervisor is taking maternity leave.
There is still loads for me to learn but I have such a lovely team to work with, they have been fabulous and made me feel very welcome.
And wouldn't you know it? I've still been able to be creative and produce a flyer to show the location of the new premises. These have now been printed and I've been handing them out to the local shops and businesses as I introduce myself as well.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Created this little something... just because I'll always be a country girl and I don't think I'll ever end up living anywhere else. A few years ago I actually had my heart all set on relocating across the pond to the frozen north (North Dakota to be precise); but guess it wasn't meant to be.

I still live in the same village in Suffolk that I grew up in, I still see the same views every day and although some things change, new people and families move in, people and families move out, friends and family have died, been born, got married and moved on... but for me I actually feel very grounded here... generations of my family have lived here ~ it's my home, it has my heart, this is where I belong (well, for now anyway) <3

I'm just a country girl from Suffolk living with my beautiful daughter and 4 cats: EAP The Demonic Moggy, 'El Bandito' and 'Her Royal Highness Princess Pickle-Lily Fuzzy Britches' (yes that is her actual name), and 'The Fabulous Liz Taylor' (actually a tom cat... named after the Denis O'Hare character in American Horror Story Hotel).
    We also foster autumn-orphan hedgehogs.
